Wind vane

The items I ordered arrived much earlier than I expected. The wind vane looks good for a 3D printed product, it takes a small amount of breath to move it, so the bearings seem to be good ( time will tell ). I've not got the WEATHERflow meter yet, so I can't comment on fit, and performance in the field.

This is a great piece of gear for the Weatherflow ballistic weather meter. It adds to the functionality of the Weatherflow and leaves your hands free to use a ballistic app on a mobile device. Well made and a perfect fit, easily attached to a tripod.

I have just received my WeatherFlow vane, and I must say - I am very impressed! I have to admit, that I was a bit skeptic (regarding the price) as to what I'd get, considering that it is a vane for a weather meter I paid 70 for. But I am extremely impressed at the quality of it. I have both the 4500 and 5500 series Kestrel weather meters, and the vane for the newer 5500 series no-longer have a bubble level anymore - much to my annoyance. I got a tripod out and balanced the weather meter indoors in the vane, and I could not believe it - even the Kestrels (including the 4500 with bubble level - on a photography tripod which has its own level too) couldn't beat it on the "spin test". I haven't used it outdoors yet - (considering the current pandemic situation), but I am expecting it to be flawless. The moving part is clearly high-precision moulded (3d printed?) and the quality of the plastic is obvious as soon as you see it, let alone pick it up and feel it. It is exceptionally well balanced as I have just mentioned, and for the vane itself, of comparable quality to the more-than-double the price Kestrel Vane. You do get a pouch and a foldable vane with the Kestrel, but that's what you're paying 72.00 for when you buy it separately. Frankly? If this vane came collapsible with a pouch, it too would be well worth 72.00, except my reckoning is that marketing vagaries means that not many people would be willing to pay as much as they paid for the vane as they paid for the weather meter. Good show, Andy from Ludicrous Lumens!
